Best Supplements To Help You Reach Your Fitness Goals
July 15, 2016
There's a lot of information out there on the internet that can sometimes get confusing. Well, I'm here to share with you my favorite supplements and how they have contributed to my healthy lifestyle. I use 3 main supplements everyday: pre-workout, protein powder, and BCAAs (Branch Chain Amino Acids). To get a better understanding as to why I use these supplements and what they do, I'm going to break them down and do some explaining!
I'm going to be totally honest and just say I haven't gotten through a workout without using a pre-workout in years. If I don't have pre workout I just pop a caffeine pill and am good to go. Pre-workout has a combination of ingredients formulated to increase energy, endurance, strength, muscle pumps, and focus. The main ingredients found in pre-workouts that make them so useful are the caffeine, beta-alanine, and (sometimes) creatine. I prefer pre-workouts that contain <1g or 0g of creatine, but don't fear it! Here are my top 5 favorite pre-workouts:
1. C4 (regular or ripped)
Only 1g creatine
150 mg caffeine
$1.03 per serving ($30 per container)
1.5 g creatine
180 mg caffeine
3. Methyl Pump 3.0
130 mg caffeine
4. Uplift (for women)
150 mg caffeine
In my opinion, this is the most important component that someone on any fitness journey can utilize whether you're trying to lose, maintain, or gain weight. Did you know that there are different types of proteins for different types of goals? If you're trying to stay lean, go with a Whey protein. If you're trying to stay full throughout the day, go with a Casein protein. If you're trying to put on more muscle, choose a muscle gainer protein.
The macronutrient, protein, helps build muscle and having a higher protein diet actually increases your metabolism, helping you to burn more fat as well. During your workout, you do damage to your muscle by causing micro tears within the muscle. When taking protein as a post-workout supplement, it helps repair these tears in order for the muscle to grow and get stronger. Here are a few of my favorite protein powders:
Fav flavors: Campfire Marshmallow, Chocolate Fudge Cake, Glazed Donut <- I mean come on
(Branch Chain Amino Acids)
In simple terms, BCAA's are the building blocks of muscle. I usually either take BCAA's during or after my workout. It comes in a powder form (like pre-workout), and aids in accelerating the healing process of your muscles along with having weight-loss applications. BCAA's are made up of 3 amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAA's are described by "ratios", which is the ratio of these 3 amino acids in that order; the most proven is a 2:1:1 ratio. Although I've only tried and stuck with one BCAA, here are a few of the top rated:
1. Man Sports ISO-Amino
Flavors: Grape Bubble Gum, Sour Patch, Blue Bombsicle, White Mystery Flavor, etc
